Are you kidding me?!

I have to apologize up front first to my Grandma and also to my Catholic friends and readers... but I REALLY disagree with these latest statements from the Pope. Please know that I am not intending to insult anyone's faith, just express my disappointment.

NOOOO!!!!!!!

When I saw this last night I wanted to yell so much. Really?!?! Are you kidding me, Pope? Are you seriously telling people to toss the condoms?! Are you really going to go against all progress the NGOs and Evangelical groups have made?!?! Really?!?!

I understand teaching abstinence, I'm all for it and believe it's the best option. In fact, most programs already in place have been teaching the "ABC" method, which stands for "Abstinence first, but if you can't... Be loyal and use Condoms." But to think that teaching abstinence is enough to end the AIDS epidemic is ridiculous!

Whether the Pope likes it or not, people in Africa are going to continue to have sex. By saying that condoms are wrong is only going to make it worse because when these people have sex they WON'T be using a condom.... Hence the general spreading and the increase in maternal/fetal HIV .

To quote the Pope's opening line "A Christian can never remain silent." I cannot stand here in good moral and religious conduct and say that what he is doing is right! It's blatantly wrong.

It's putting people at an increased risk and decreasing the chance of survival for so many, including mothers and infants. It's going to increase the number of orphans. It's going to decrease life expectancy*.

Not only are there all the health benefits that the Pope is putting in danger, once again science is pitted against faith; The Pope has thrown medical science against faith. Which if any of you have read previous posts will know, I'm vehemently against. SCIENCE AND FAITH CAN CO-EXIST... I promise.

Ahhh... I don't know what else I can say on this matter.

* This obviously only applies to those who are of the Catholic faith, or in regions where the Catholic morals are followed highly.

This is NOT new information. This has been the Vatican's stance for decades. Catholicism is against contraceptives of any form.

At least they've given up the stance that condoms CAUSE the spread of HIV. (Something convoluted about them encouraging more sex and not being 100% effective.)

I know that the "no contraceptive" policy is not new. However it still angers me that they are still willing to stand by this view, and in this case reaffirm their position, in spite of overwhelming evidence pointing the other way.

Also in this case it's more than a contraceptive, it's disease protection; Equivalent to taking malaria pills before going to an endemic area only with much larger benefits long term.

And with the AIDS rates in Africa I think they need to reconsider their stance on the issue, or at least not condemn the use of something that could save lives.

Forgive any possible grammar/spelling mistakes. I wrote this on my iPhone.
