The above image is taken from the 1500+ page Robbins and Contran Pathologic Basis of Disease, which is basically the bible of pathophysiology. Now, if the 5 categories of myelodysplastic disorders are out of scope for "the beast", why did we have an hour lecture and 40 pages of slides on the subject?
By the way, if you're interested (at least according to our lecturer):
1. Refractory anemia (w/out ringed sideroblasts)
2. Refractory anemia w/ringed sideroblasts (a.k.a. RARS)
3. Refractory anemia/cytopenia with multilineage dysplasia
4. Refactory anemia with excess blasts (a.k.a. RAEB) - types 1 and 2
